Sponsor a scholar

Sponsoring a scholar means we can appoint staff, tutors, life skill coaches, as well as run our annual summer residentials and the excursions, activities and challenges offered to scholars.  Monthly academic learning and life skills activities are a key part of scholar development support by your donations.  All our sessions and activities lead to the level 3 Diploma in Learning, Development and Social Engagement and the level 4 Diploma in Learning, Development and Social Empowerment.

These diplomas empower scholars through personal, academic, creative, physical and social challenges.

We never exclude anyone because they don’t have the funds or support to attend – we find ways to fund and support them

How does sponsoring a scholar work?

Our First Star 2U programme is our newest programme enabling First Star to engage with young people in care across the nation.  Monthly sessions take place on line (6 hours a month) with academic and life skills sessions bringing together young people across the country.  Our summer residential take space at the campus of a university partner.

Our campus based programmes are led by the university partner and include monthly on-campus sessions as well as the annual residential (which tends to be longer to enable young people from the local community to join).

All our young people are in care and thus safeguarding is key to their engagement. Sponsors do not meet or work with specific scholars to protect the anonymity, safety and well-being of the scholars.

In keeping with safeguarding, child protection and data protection legislation and policy, all our scholars details remain anonymous.

Overall scholars / cohort progress is prepared and  updated annually illustrating the impact of the programme  Regular updates on the cohort’s progress will be available and anonymised data regarding GCSE and post 16 outcomes is reported.  Anonymised case studies are prepared annually. Once scholars graduate and become Guardian Scholars they can choose to include their name in any information

Sponsors are invited to events including our Annual Lecture.  Regular news and updates are shared and Sponsors are invited to become First Star Ambassadors.

First Star Ambassadors are invited to include their name on our sponsors roll of honour.
